Although there is a widespread consensus that Apple Computer Inc would simply be shooting itself in the foot if it priced the makings for Mac OS clonemakers out of the market, it should be pointed out that some adjustment will be needed once the PowerPC Platform – which seems to have reverted to its original name of Common Hardware Reference Platform – is established. Macintosh clonemakers at present pay Apple separate fees for the operating system and the hardware design, and the latter source of revenue will disappear once the PowerPC Platform is finally ready.
