UK Election ’97 update: if it all went pear-shaped last night, at least it wouldn’t have been down to the technology. Supercomputer vendor Silicon Graphics Inc’s Onyx RealityEngine2 supplied the power behind the analysis of voting results during election night television broadcasts. BBC Televison, ITN and Sky News used the machines to generate real-time 3D graphic visualizations of voting trends and the impact of incoming results as the night wore on.
