Problems continue to mount at NextLevel Systems Inc, the General Instrument Corp video, voice and internet networking company. The firm is to close its satellite receiver manufacturing plant in Puerto Rico, with the loss of 1,100 jobs. It will split the production work for the analog and digital television receivers between an American subcontractor and the Nextlevel plant in Mexico. The move is part of the re-structuring which saw 225 jobs cut from the company’s San Diego-based Satellite Data Networks division (CI No 3,290).
