Deep gloom shrouded Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp as it reported its 34% slump in half-year unconsolidated profits (page five) and said the outlook for next year looks terrible: according to Reuter, some analysts say the company is keen to show how its profits are being squeezed, because the Ministry of Post & Telecommunications keeps a tight lid on pricing and continually declining profits might help twist its arm to allow a rise.
