Northern Telecom Ltd and Hewlett-Packard Co announced yesterday that they are to join forces to explore the development of cellular digital packet data network systems for the 800MHz cellular market. They will use Hewlett-Packard’s HP 9000 series 800 family of Precision Architecture RISC-based Unix computers with Northern Telecom’s DMS-MTX digital cellular switching system and dual mode radio channel units to explore ways of offering integrated mobile cellular digital packet data systems for cellular service providers. The two say the next steps in their relationship include development of end-to-end systems for cellular providers, including infrastructure, administration and support for applications development.
