Novell Inc has appointed an executive to keep a watchful eye on its controversial collaboration and patent peace partnership with Microsoft Corp to ensure that its goals are achieved.
The Waltham, Massachusetts-based Linux and identity management software vendor said late last week that Susan Heystee, who was recently named vice president and general manager for global strategic partners, will manage the Microsoft relationship.
Heystee already looks after Novell’s relationships with IBM, HP and Dell and will also oversee both the business and technical cooperation components of the agreement according to Novell, ensuring that Novell customers gain the maximum benefit from interoperability work around Linux.
Last month the two companies agreed to collaborate on virtualization technologies, web services management and document format interoperability. Those elements will be under Heystee’s watching brief, as well as Microsoft’s distribution of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server support subscription vouchers and joint marketing efforts.
