Advanced RISC Machines Ltd, Cambridge, today signs a licence agreement with the $140m-a-year Asahi Kasei Microsystems Co Ltd wholly-owned semiconductor subsidiary of Asahi Chemical Industry Co Ltd based in Tokyo. Asahi Kasei will combine the ARM7 RISC microprocessor with its own mixed signal technology to create parts for wireless telephone applications. The first chip is expected sometime next year. Advanced RISC Machines says the pact, its seventh, will help it to gain access to the Japanese market and build rapport with Japanese firms.
