IXI Ltd is still on the trail of OEM deals for its X.desktop graphical desktop manager, and the latest taker is ICL Plc, which has announced a worldwide licensing agreement with the Cambridge, UK-based company. X.desktop will now be available on both ICL’s Sparc-based DRS 6000 and Intel-based DRS 3000 Unix lines. ICL sold 1,300 DRS 6000s into the commercial sector during its first year of release, and IXI sees the move as an important part of its efforts to conquer the European marketplace. Groupe Bull SA already takes X.desktop through the Open Desktop component on its ProStation workstations, but two other European majors – Ing C Olivetti & Co SpA and Siemens-Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG – are still undeclared.
