Although Paris-based optical storage systems software specialist Dorotech SA has now reversed its policy of setting up international subsidiaries, it still intends to develop large client accounts in the UK, Germany and other large European markets. A spokeswoman said that the lowering of European borders no longer makes it necessary to open offices abroad, and the company prefers to manage everything from France. However the team of 15 in the UK will be retained because it’s well implanted and has contracts in place. Despite the closure of fledgling offices in Germany and Italy about two or three months ago, Dorotec’s spokeswoman asserted that the emphasis is still on Europe. We have already developed a telephone billing management application for British Telecom, and we are now putting a partnership in place with Sofrecom, said managing director of the company Bruno Costa-Marini. He hopes that Dorotech’s pending alliance with Sofrecom SA, a subsidiary of France Telecom specialising in international markets, will give it access to working with other European telecommunications operators. The company, which is held by finance group Optix SA, expects to do about $22.5m business this year, an increase of 25% on 1991, with net profit of some $3.7m.
