12% profits in second quarter
Oracle has signalled that the European Commission will give the go-ahead to its multi-billion takeover bid for Sun Microsystems.
As the company announced its second quarter results yesterday, Oracle president Safra Catz said: “We expect the European Commission to unconditionally clear the acquisition of Sun in January.”
Earlier in the week, European Commissioner for competition Neelie Kroes had also indicated that the chances of the takeover bid were looking good.
Oracle reported a 12% increase in net profit to $1.5bn for its second quarter.
Revenue was also on the up, rising 4% on the year-earlier quarter to $5.9bn.
The enterprise giant was keen to ram home that this growth was at the expense of rival SAP.
“For the fourth consecutive quarter, Oracle took market share from SAP in every region around the world,” said Oracle president Charles Phillips.
