Will it or won’t it? Despite acknowledging that the European Network Computer market was worth only $6m in total at the end of 1996, Frost & Sullivan predicts that, driven by the internet, it will be worth some $2.7bn by 2005. Meanwhile, Ovum Ltd says that Network Computers are unlikely to gain a significant market penetration over the next five years, due to the immaturity of Java and because cost of ownership is not the overiding issue. Ovum predicts that Windows-centric terminals will prove the more successful.
