It now appears unlikely that Pacific Telesis International will be able to join Cable & Wireless Plc as an investor in the International Digital Communications consortium following the decision by the Justice Department on Nynex Corp’s request to be allowed to hold the US end of the PTAT-1 transatlantic cable (CI No 989): the three core companies, including Cables and C Itoh have carved up PacTel’s planned 8.9% share, at least for now.
