The Belgian state-owned phone company telecommunications Belgacom NV has chosen Pacific Telesis Group Inc’s PacTel from its shortlist of six to be its partner in converting its cellular phone network to the Groupe Speciale Mobile digital standard. The US company will take a maximum 25% of the new unit that will operate and market the system. Losers were BellSouth Corp, Cable & Wireless Plc, US West Inc, France Telecom and Southwestern Bell Corp.
