Claims to enhance MySQL 5.1 with up to 10x performance improvements
Percona, a provider of MySQL databases and LAMP applications, has unveiled ‘Percona Server with XtraDB’ as a drop-in replacement for MySQL, with backward compatibility.
Percona said that the new release enhances MySQL 5.1 with up to 10x performance improvements, diagnostic tools useful to DBAs, and more tunability of server behaviour. Also included is online backup utility XtraBackup, an open source tool in the MySQL ecosystem.
The company claims that the new server can handle more concurrent transactions, and can scale up on powerful servers. It provides fast IO path, improved internal cooperation, and fast checksums and offers flexibility in variable page size, better table and buffer pool management, and configurable insert buffer.
In addition, it is resilient to corrupted data, and enables crash-safe transactional replication. The server features online backup, InnoDB table import/export, fast recovery, configurable data dictionary and enables improved profiling and instrumentation, Percona said.
