Philips NV has run into unexpected slackness in demand for its 1M-bit static RAMs, and has put on hold the plant that is intended to make 1M statics in Hamburg, West Germany, construction of which was to have begun next year: the 1M statics, developed as part of Philips’ contribution to the Megaproject with Siemens AG, are presently being fabricated at Eindhoven, and the company’s new plant at Nijmegen will not now come into service until Eindhoven runs out of capacity.
