Computer peripherals remained dismal, plunging back into a loss of UKP900,000 after a UKP600,000 profit last time, on sales down 6.7% to UKP32m – why does Plessey persist with this business? we wrote at the time of the annual figures in May (CI No 692): yes indeed. Plessey Co Plc has decided that the game is no longer worth the candle, and has opened talks with Distributed Logic Cobp, Anaheim, California to sell the Plessey Peripheral Systems business. The unit, which has UK, Anaheim and Canadian operations, and seldom turns a profit, specialises in peripheral subsystems for DEC processors. Distributed Logic manufactures disk, tape and communications controllers for use with DEC minis and other machines, and reported turnover of about $10.2m in the first nine months of its fiscal 1987.
