The Pentagon’s rebuff to Plessey’s proposal of marriage to Harris Corp has reportedly not forced the UK firm to give up on its ambitions to acquire a US electronics firm with defence interests: Gould Inc has long looked a suitable target for GEC, but the Rolling Meadows, Illinois company may well not look un-attractive to Plessey either; the problem over Harris appears to have been that too much of its business would have had to have been quaran-tined and put under a separate board – that would be much less of a problem with Gould, but two of Harris’ other attractions, its chip and its telecommunications businesses, are largely absent from Gould.
