Japan’s biggest mobile operator, NTT DoCoMo Inc, has signed a memorandum of understanding with RealNetworks to jointly deploy software to improve the video streaming capabilities of DoCoMo’s phones.
RealNetworks, digital services and software provider, will look to develop an open environment to enable content providers (CPs) to use their own multi-format, cross-platform servers, to stream video content over the internet to FOMA handsets.
Both DoCoMo and RealNetworks expect that by introducing new, convenient streaming capabilities, they will encourage CPs to offer new video streaming services for mobile subscribers, thus enhancing their service offerings.
