Survey finds techies boosting skills
Huge numbers of IT pros are brushing up on their IT qualifications to boost their chances of getting a job in the recession.
A survey from The IT Job Board found that 83% of IT techies are thinking of studying for a new qualification. Their main reason was to increase their chances of landing a job, but they also believed it would broaden their skills set.
A clean sweep of industry recruiters also surveyed by The IT Job board reiterated the link between gaining additional IT qualifications and candidates’ chances of securing a job. Recruiters emphasised that most prospective employers were looking for specialist skills.
IT pros who fail to keep up-to-speed with industry changes and new qualifications risk the possibility of missing out on new job roles to those taking a more serious and planned approach to developing their careers, said Jamie Bowler, head of marketing at The IT Job Board.
Candidates who combined qualifications with relevant experience stood the best chance of success in the current climate, accordig to the survey.
