He didn’t include the news until the following morning. It was sheer incompetence by me, he told the Mercury News on Tuesday afternoon. I wasn’t thinking. I was on my way out the door (Monday) night and thought, `We didn’t have anything on this,’ he recalled. We blew that. Funny how these things happen, eh?
