Greater of use of IT to promote UK post office services is a good idea, but can they afford it, a new report has asked.
A report commissioned by the Department of Trade and Industry has evaluated some of the measures post offices in rural communities are undertaking in order to make themselves more relevant to today’s society. Among the measures examined were the implementation of online tools, and the use of mobile devices to deliver services.
While the report applauded the innovation of the trials and noted that there was demand for them, it was concerned that the limited customer base available to the post office was liable to harm their efforts in the long term.
The report has called for a full debate on the future of post offices to address some of the issues facing them.
