Rush University Medical Center in Chicago has deployed a Sun Microsystems technology infrastructure to run its new electronic medical record system.
The Sun system, comprised of the Solaris 10 operating system, UltraSPARC IV+ processor-based Sun Fire servers and Sun StorageTek services, supports the hospital’s patient information record from Epic Systems.
The EMR system from Epic captures all clinical, financial, and operational data related to a patient and organizes it into a record accessible to users across the care continuum at the hospital.
The Sun-powered system also streamlines non-medical operations for the hospital, helping to improve the healthcare provider’s financial performance and regulatory compliance.
What Rush University Medical Center is doing to break down information silos and streamline data flow at the hospital is fundamental to the improvement of patient safety and the reduction of medical errors, said Joerg Schwarz, director of healthcare & life sciences at Sun.
