Samsung Electronics has unveiled the world’s first 8GB hard disk embedded smartphone.
Samsung is billing the i310 model as more of a mobile device than mobile phone, combining as it does a phone, digital camera and MP3 player. The 8GB will allow users to store around 2,000 songs, which will be managed by Windows Mobile 5.0, while USB 2.0 capability will allow the phone to be utilized as a removal hard disk.
While no MP3 device has of yet been able to dislodge Apple’s iPod from its market leading perch, for sheer convenience the i310 may yet prove a serious rival. The phone is expected in the second half of the year.
