ScottishTelecom, a unit of ScottishPower Plc, is expected to make a profit of 4m pounds in 1997-8, on revenues doubled to 110m pounds. Last year the three year old unit, which claims to have 17% of the mobile phone market in Scotland, broke even. The company is planning a flotation, perhaps next year, and reckons it could achieve a market value of between 500m pounds and 800m pounds.
