Seagate Technology is preparing to launch its next generation hard drive for mobile phones and media devices.
The new hard drive will have a 12GB capacity, despite being 23% smaller and consuming 30% less power than Seagate’s current models. The one inch drives are traditionally found in mobile devices meaning that lower power needs and smaller sizes can be used to create sleeker devices with longer battery life. As a result Seagate looks set to benefit from the continuing demand for more powerful portable units.
Brodie Keast, Seagate senior vice president said, As consumer adoption drives the demand for the availability of video content anytime and anywhere, the need for tiny, high capacity hard drives becomes more apparent. Seagate delivers a complete business and technology partnership that enables growth in this highly competitive market segment.
