Silicon Graphics Inc is in hot water over its sale of four of its Power Challenge high-end four- and eight-processor servers to the All Russian Scientific Research Institute for Technical Physics, which said it wanted the computers for environmental research on radioactive pollution. It now knows that the customer was a high- security lab that designs Russia’s nuclear weapons, and the US Commerce Department has opened an investigation into the $650,000 sale.
