Sharp Corp has followed Sony Corp in announcing that it will begin volume production of optical disk drives and media in December: Sharp’s disk is a 5.25 glass platter enclosed in a resin cartridge type, storing 42Mb; the Sharp drives come with SCSI interface, are claimed to have a low error rate, and the feel of a floppy disk because of quick-load feature; external personal computer drives cost $7,150 and the disks are $570 apiece.
