Germany’s Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG has postponed its plans to set up a unit to assemble PCs in India after the government’s last budget brought down duties on IT hardware. The company is now concentrating on establishing a PC facility in Malaysia to complement an existing one in Singapore. The India plant will now follow after Malaysia is set up. SNI recently invested $11.5m in its marketing and customization operations in India. Indian sales amounted to $24.8m from February 1996 to September 1997 and the target for the next 12 months is $25.6m.
