Underlining its strengthening position as a chipmaker, Siemens AG says that components turnover for the year to September 30 totalled some $1,600m, a 7% increase over last year, two thirds of the business being integrated circuits, making it a billion dollar chipmaker – but the business is still in the red and Siemens doesn’t expect profits for several years: Siemens has sunk $1,000m in its semiconductor business, and plans to invest another $160m this fiscal year, and employment in the division is likely to remain flat at about 17,000.
