Software Products International UK Ltd, which has its local base in Pangbourne, Sussex, has been declaring its ambition – and intention – to become the UK market leader in Personal Computer integrated software for use with networks. The network product is a variation of the company’s single user integrated software package, Open Access II. It is aimed mainly at the corporate user who will be able to develop on a PC work normally carried out on a mainframe. Software Products also announced plans to take a bigger share of the UK single user market. At present it holds between 4% and 6%, but is number one in Germany with a 60% slice of the action, even beating rival Lotus with its Symphony product. Software Products will be offering a site licence agreement with users allowing them to use a set of disks to make a prearranged number of copies. Prices vary according to need and Software Products believes this will make its product more attractive than others available. In the autumn of this year a compiler, designed to allow systems to be developed on behalf of the user, will be added to the range of products. Software Products UK’s turnover in the last year was around UKP500,000 but it expects that to rise to over UKP1m in the coming 12 months. Open Access II networking products vary from UKP125 for a file server to UKP400 for the Open Access II.
