The 8-bit MSX home computer standard that implements a scale-down MS-DOS on a Zilog Z80-compatible processor is dead but it won’t lie down: Sony Corp is the first to market with a games machine based on the enhanced MSX 2+ version of the standard: the HB F1XDJ will be officially announced on October 21 and the enhanced standard adds Japanese processing functions and acoustic and image effects; a side scroll function has been added for smooth scrolling of colour screens, the new toy will sell for around $525 and Sony plans to shell the things out at a rate of 30,000 a month; a new version of Sony’s existing HB-F1XDmk2 MSX machine will also be announced on October 21, coming in at $375, with production runs of 10,000 units a month in the plan.
