Underlining its determination to be a major player in the workstation market, Sony Corp, which last week launched its Pop News PWS1500 line of 68030 stations for the business market with a new Pop OS that combines its implementation of Unix with the Pop Desk user interface, which is based on the X Window System and Widgets (CI No 1,010), says that it is constructing a new plant for workstation manufacture, expected to open within a year, giving it 20,000 stations a month capacity, four times the present output.
