Sony Corp wants to double the size of its robotic factory automation systems business to $100m a year from the present $50m by 1991, and to that end is opening for business in the US, where it already has a contract for its Smart – for Sony Multi-Assembly Robot System high-speed precision robots worth anestimated $5m from Polaroid Corp for assembly of film eject mechanisms.
