Southwestern Bell Corp’s Southwestern Bell Telephone Co chose AT&T Corp to install the network infrastructure for its broadband network: Southwestern Bell said BroadBand Technologies Inc will provide network elements to provide switched digital fiber-to-the curb architecture; Southwestern Bell said the Richardson, Texas, network will provide video-on-demand and other interactive services, such as home shopping; the company will offer the network to up to 47,000 households by the end of 1996 and plans to provide telephone service on it by the year-end, with video transport capability following in 1995.
