Following the acquisition of Software AG’s Esperant division in October 1996 (CI No 3,035) Speedware Corp has released an updated, go-faster version of its Esperant end user query and reporting tool. Esperant 4.0, the company says, offers faster and easier reporting, improved charting and graphing, extended security, a fully graphical administration system and integrated Relational On-Line Analytical Processing. The company, which operates out of both Toronto and Montreal, Canada and which has been trading for the past 20 years, has also announced that Media/Personal Edition, a desk top version of its Media EIS/OLAP product should be out by the end of the month. The coupling of both products will enable Esperant query results to be instantly transferred into Media/PE’s multidimensional database. This version of Esperant, which is described as having a Windows 95 look-and-feel, is a 16-bit product, but the company has said that a 32-bit version, 4.1, will be released in July. Speedware, which employs 260 people in offices across the world is, according to the general manager of its Marketing Business Intelligence division the best kept secret in town. Esperant 4.0 costs $600 per user for one to eight copies, and costs $355 at the 500 copy level. Prices for Media/PE have not yet been announced.
