A study of data collated from 150 sites by cost-efficiency consultant Compass has shown that the annual unit cost of storage per installed terabyte is declining by about 40%, yet the unit cost per addressable terabyte is declining by only 20%.
It said organizations are failing to see all the potential savings they could from declining storage costs because data-redundancy strategies and email-archiving policies tend to involve them buying more storage than better managing the storage they already have.
