Storage area network company Augment Systems Inc has lost its president and chief executive officer, Lorrin Gale, who is leaving the company immediately. The Westford, Massachusetts- based company is looking for a replacement, but in the mean time, Lawrence Beaupre, vice president of manufacturing, will step in as acting chief executive. The company wouldn’t comment on why Gale had left. Augment was founded in 1990, but has seen recurring losses. Between October 1995 and March 1997 it was operating as a development stage company, working on a new line of fiber channel file server systems. Fiber channel took longer to become established than many anticipated, though Augment reported a ramp up in revenues in its third quarter last year. It launched an NT client for the systems last September, and plans Unix support later this year. Augment cut the prices on its AFX storage servers earlier this month, saying the cuts were driven by increased volumes and economies of scale. The company has been looking for additional funding, on which it says its growth plans are contingent.
