Sun Microsystems Inc has announced several additions to its range of Netra servers and its new Netra t1100 is being targeted at the telecommunications networks market with a range of specialist functions to address stringent environmental and storage specifications required by the industry. The company says the 1100 is compliant with key telco equipment specifications including the SR 3580 level 3 Network Equipment Building Systems (NEBS) standard from Bellcore. Based around a 266Mhz UltraSparc II chip, it boasts 16KB data cache and 16KB instruction on chip, 128mb memory expandable to 2GB, 66Mhz PCI bus, I/O of 40Mb/sec via Ultra SCSI and a total of 16 SIMM memory slots. Meanwhile Sun’s also pushing two further additions to its Netra NFS range; the 1.2 2/2300 and the 2/1300, both based around its 300 MHz Ultra II chip. The new boxes are available in either single or dual processor options with up to 319GB of storage. Users can choose from either RAID 5 or RAID 0+1 hot-swap drives. Also included is the company’s Smart Recover system which, it claims, enables users to reboot a 319Gb system in under ten minutes and File Snapshot, designed to enable users to recover previous versions of files without intervention by the system administrator. The Netra t1100 costs from $16,995. The Netra NFS 1.2 2/1300 costs from $33,995 and the 2/2300 version from $43,995.
