Symantec Corp has taken the wrappers off an intrusion-prevention appliance line-up that will have aggregate network bandwidth stretching from 50Mbps to 2Gbps, to cater to the range of deployment needs at branch offices, distribution sites, and at the network core.
The new Network Security 7100 Series is said to be the first line of multi-gigabit intrusion-prevention appliances to incorporate Symantec’s so-called One Click to Prevention. The company said the device can make the switch from a detection device to a prevention tool with a single mouse click.
The 7100 series combines the use of multiple detection technologies, including protocol anomaly detection and vulnerability attack interception, to block unwanted traffic. The appliances can also draw on the most current security updates provided through Symantec’s LiveUpdate services.
The vendor said the appliance range comprises three models: the 7120, 7160, and 7161, which are all due for delivery in August.
