Fort Worth, Texas-based Tandy Corp duly announced its plans for a new US-wide chain of computer SuperCenters that will sell all the leading brands at low prices: as many as six Computer City SuperCenters will be opened across the country in 1991, the first being in Los Angeles; each will have about 20,000 square feet of selling space, a service facility and warehousing facilities, and the chain will expand over the next two years; the company will also open Computer City Super-Satellites in each market which will carry a majority of the products sold in a SuperCenter to give total coverage of metropolitan markets by the chain – shoppers at the satellites will benefit from just-in-time delivery directly from the Computer City SuperCenter; under a preliminary letter of intent, a separate subsidiary of Tandy will acquire the Computer City SuperCenter in Los Angeles from an affiliate of Inacomp Computer Centers Inc and Tandy will enter into a consulting agreement with Inacomp and will grant the Detroit-based company an option to acquire a minority interest in the Tandy subsidiary running the SuperCenters.
