British Telecommunications Plc is negotiating to buy the 2% stake in McDonnell Douglas Corp’s Japanese value-added network services subsidiary Network Information Service Co held by Marubeni Corp. Agreement for the purchase is expected to be reached by the end of next month. Telecom International and Network Information Service plan to apply to the Ministry of Posts & Telecommunications to operate a data link between Tokyo and London. McDonnell Douglas, which operates the Tymnet international packet switched network, was to have been British Telecom’s partner on value-added network services in the UK, but the joint venture fell apart.
