Unlike British Telecommunications Plc, which has largely washed its hands of the matter, Telefonica de Espana SA has bowed to public pressure and decided to suspend its highly profitable erotic and party phone lines: callers pay the equivalent of 60 cents a minute to dial numbers which go under names such as Travestisuperactiva, Supermiembro or Porno Party; the company said that the 903 lines had brought in revenues of $110m in the first 10 months of this year, with $70m of that going to Telefonica.
