Telesoft AB, Stockholm is now shipping two higher-performance releases of its TeleGen2 Ada compilersfor DEC VAX computers. The two products are the TeleGen2 VAX/VMS HDS Host Development System, a full-function Ada code generation and debug facility for creation of VAX/VMS hosted and VAX/VMS targeted applications, and the TeleGen2 VAX host-to-MC680X0 target CDS Comprehensive Development System, an integrated, embedded target development environment for creation and debugging of application code, for use on a Motorola MC680X0-based target system. Telesoft says Ada-tasking operations are dramatically optimised by a new Runtime Support Package, called Turbo RSP, that is claimed to provide up to 400% performance improvement for VAX host and more than 230% better performance on Motorola MC680X0 targets than available in earlier TeleGen2 versions. The TeleGen2 enhanced Source Level Debugger and Ada Profiler, included in both the HDS and the CDS, work on both the host system and on the 680X0 target machines, giving the embedded systems developer the same interface to programming tools as on the VAX host. New features for the debugger include the ability to examine a program at the Ada source level while it is executing code on a VMS or an embedded target machine; it can also be set up to execute in a tiled windows format on any DEC VT100-compatible terminal.
Ada Profiler bundled
The Ada Profiler, now bundled free with the base packages, allows users, without source code modification, to understand and improve the structure of the application, identify opportunities for code optimisation, and discover bugs that can cause excessive computing. The VAX/680X0 CDS supports MC68000, MC68010, MC68020 and MC68030 microprocessors with and without MC68881 or MC68882 floating point co-processors. It also includes an integrated suite of object tools specific to the MC680X0 cross compiler, and are claimed to work together to generate efficient code in a convenient development environment. The CDS also includes a complete Host Development System for development and unit test of code on the VAX/VMS system, and support for the Hewlett-Packard-Microtec Research IEEE-695 Object Module Format, enabling TeleGen2 users to work with tools from other companies such as Cadre’s Atron and Microcase Division emulators and performance analysers, Hewlett-Packard’s IIP64000-UX Emulator/Analysers and Tektronix’ TekDBAda and 8541 emulator. Telegen2 is also compatible with Telesoft’s own TeleArcs integrated Ada-intelligent programming environment tool set, which enables the user to access any part of a large multi-user system and investigate it on various levels of abstraction. Features include a language sensitive editor, advanced library facilities, interactive cross referencer, configuration management, consistency control, and a graphical viewing and browsing facility. Available immediately, the Host Development System starts at $4,200, the Comprehensive Development System a basic $10,500 for all VAXstations. Customers get training discounts on one or two of the courses available from TeleSoft including the Programmer’s Introduction to Ada, Embedded Real-Time Systems with Ada, Tasking and Real-Time Ada Applications, and Ada for Technical Managers.
