Texas Instruments Inc is offering a lifetime parts warranty on its top-end Business System 1500 Unix computer, but there is rather less than meets the eye to the offer. In the first place it covers only the CPU and memory, not peripherals; in the second, you still have to pay for labour after the first three months – $100 to find out which $2 part has failed; it applies only to the first user; and, unkindest cut of all, registering for it costs $25.
