The Ariane space rocket was scheduled to launch two US satellites from its Kourou, French Guiana base last night, Arianespace SA reports: the G-Star III satellite will join five others belonging to GTE Spacenet Corp providing telecommunications services to US banks, hotel chains, broadcasting companies and classified communications for the US Secret Service; and the SBS-5 satellite – owned by a subsidiary of IBM according to Reuter, and it could be right because IBM hung onto a couple of bits MCI Communications couldn’t afford when it sold most of Satellite Business Systems to the Washington carrier – will be the second in a series supplying voice, video and data services, mainly for US companies and network television systems.
