The ICOT Institute for Computers Of Tomorrow has just passed the halfway mark in its five-year research and development effort, and re-ports that the hardware design of the parallel inference machine has been completed, and that the basic software development is now starting: the next stage will be development of a test system incorporating 100 inference engines, which is planned for completion by the end of this year; by the end of last year, some $132m had been invested by the Japanese government and participating firms.
