Following extensive lobbying by the Federation Against Software Theft it now seems unlikely that a blank tape levy will be introduced into the Copyright Bill currently going through Parliament; the UK software industry is estimated to lose in excess of UKP150m a year due to software piracy and it was felt the levy would increase the level of illegal home taping of games and micro business software; the software industry has also lobbied successfully against the introduction of a right to rent software, which it felt would undermine many software licensing arrangements.
