The US Semiconductor Industry Association and the Semiconductor Policy Committee of the European Electronics Components Association held a their first ever joint meeting in Santa Clara on Friday and agreed to a set of principles aimed at fostering international co-operation between the two regions in microelectronics trade: according to the US side, apart from a load of flackery and motherhood and apple pie, the two sides agreed in principle that company and national policies should be based on the agreement not to use unfair trade practices, and should be in accordance with internationally recognised anti dumping and anti-trust principles, and that national opportunities must be fully open to all producers on the basis of fair and reciprocal market access.
