Toshiba America is to abandon its Infinia brand of PCs after the product – aimed at the top end of the market – was overtaken by a surge in demand for sub-$1,000 products. While the company intends to remain in the desktop market, it will only compete on the commercial enterprise side. The company also suffered because it relied heavily on DVD, a technology it believed would give it a big advantage over competitors. But a host of problems – and confused consumers, have made DVD a non-event so far.
