Toshiba Corp is to establish a joint venture to fabricate bipolar chips in China. Wuxi Huazhi Semiconductor Co Ltd, capitalised at about $10m, will be established in October at Wuxi, Jiangsu Province with Toshiba taking a 60% stake, and local partner Huajin Electronics Group Corp the rest. It will invest about $25m to set up new lines at a Huajin plant and start production in April 1995 – sounds like assembly at that price. It will start out doing 2m parts a month for use in televisions and audio kit.
